THE CAREER OF ENGINEERS:

This series of articles would discuss about the different branches of Engineering, Job profile of different sectors where engineers are employed, also it would guide a counseling cell for b.tech students about new topics, psychological pressure, scientific processes to learn new subjects, new techniques to solve problem, vocational industry training, projects for seminar for third year students,& LECTURE NOTES.

We would first discuss about the different branches, the relative competitive environment, scopes of the branch, then a synoptic curtain raiser about the focus of the branch.Where would these future engineers be employed? of course, one would try to say, IN INDUSTRY, but what types of industry would be preferred as a job response, then there would be tips to change of sectors for final year B.Tech students of UPTU.
THE BRANCHES OF ENGINEERING:

There are two types of branches in Engineering, like one group are called as "CORE BRANCHES" which are fundamental branches and the group includes, (i) Civil Engineering, (ii) Mechanical Engineering, (iii) Electrical Engineering. Where as Computer Science & Engineering has been evolved from Advanced Computing, a specialized subject that belongs to the Applied Mathematics group.

Electronics Engineering that delivers so many gadgets, gizmos and home appliances is itself a derived branch of Electrical Engineering, and Production Engineering is a specialized branch of Mechanical Engineering. Production Engineering is a subset of Mechanical Engineering. Information Technology is the latest KID in the Engineering block and truly speaking, it's not an engineering branch, rather it is evolved from Information Science.
CIVIL ENGINEERING: the Mother branch of Engineering....

It is the oldest branch of Engineering, and Egyptians learned this upto an advanced stage than the rest of the contemporary world. The proof is the numerous pyramid they build across the ancient Egypt. Babylonians, Greeks,Assyrians were famous for civil constructions which are the central themes for Civil Engineering. The Town Planning, Irrigation Systems,Roads & other infrastructure.

So Construction is the basic theme of Civil Engineering, from bridge construction to ultra high sky scrappers all of them needed Civil Engineering in their building process, although the designing has been assigned to its specialized sector named ARCHITECTURE, but the rest of the works are completed by civil engineers. As India has been identified as one of the top emerging nations, it is expected that coming 10 years would be a boom.

A nations prosperity depends upon the infrastructure that it can provide for a smooth and functioning industrialization. As a country, India needs industrialization of the underdeveloped states of India, like states of North eastern region, orrisa, parts of west bengal, andhra pradesh, jharkhand, chattisgarh etc. To do so India must develops massive infrastructure including logistics for these areas

To cater the needs of the industries, Government of India had taken some measures towards building a mega network of connected infrastructure to boost the industries around those region. The mega projects like golden quadrilateral projects of road connectivity that would link four Indian metro, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata & Chennai would boost the industries of surrounding areas.

So in the next 10 to 15 years, the construction boom in India is not going to be subsided as the nascent industries would create a very robust demand for both Civil and Structural Engineers. In this respect Civil Engg is a safe option while choosing the branch during Counseling.
THE JOBS IN GOVERNMENT SECTORS/ PSUs

Indian Engg Service or better known an IES is the examinations through which government chooses the cadre of Engg. Services, the examination is conducted by UPSC. Other than IES, their IMES (Indian Military Engg. Service). Simultaneously NAVRATNA companies often conduct independent recruitment drive, public companies like BHEL, ONGC, IOC, NTPC, NHPC, NHAI, SAIL often recruit on their own.
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING: THE FORCE BEHIND MOBILITY...

One of the major branch of Engineering is Mechanical Engineering. It is the second oldest branch and the parent branch so many derived branches like Production Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Industrial Engineering etc.
